I saw in an older ticket that it is possible for this to be linked to openmotif. But I do have openmotif installed with brew. here: /usr/local/Cellar/openmotif/2.3.8_1/
could the issue be beacuse it was installed with brew instead of macports? if so how do tell arb to look in /usr/local/Cellar/ for its dependencies?
Thanks for your help in advance.

The homebrew version is working again.
I am really sorry, but I cannot help with OSX installations (only linux).
Support for arb OSX versions (homebrew and MacPort) was completely done by volunteers. Currently there are no resources to fix the problems occurring with homebrew.
